Subdomains and website protection

Create a DNS name or attach it to an existing protected website.

DNS name

A DNS-only subdomain needs a record type and destination. Use A for an IPv4 address, AAAA for IPv6 or CNAME for another hostname. Saving this record does not itself enable protection; keep mail and other records unchanged.

Protected hostname

Select the parent website, enter the subdomain and inherit its rules and backend connections, or choose an enabled backend and its protocol and port. With active HotWall DNS the required records are applied automatically; with external DNS, add the displayed records at your provider.

Status and removal

A new hostname remains pending until DNS is verified. Pausing or removing its protection leaves DNS records in place; remove a DNS record separately only when you intend to change routing. Check the website workspace for backends, rules and the latest DNS status.
